The competitions are usually run on Lochgreen or Darley courses with the occasional one on Fullarton. The club has blocks of dedicated tee-times for nearly all competitions and tee times are booked using the Howdidido computer system which is also used to administer SGU handicaps.
From March to September the emphasis is on Stroke Play competitions but there are still a fair number of Stableford events and some team and novelty events including Tri-ams, 5 club events and Texas Scrambles. The competitions in the winter months are more often Stablefords, especially on Sundays.
The Cunningham Rosebowl is one of our most popular competitions, held in April each year over the Darley and open to all South Ayrshire Season Ticket holders with a valid SGU handicap. Our flagship event, the Welbeck Open, takes place in June this year and our four person Team Tournament (AM-AM) will be held in August. Our Members and Guests day in early September brings our summer season to a close and is very popular with members and guests alike.
Our competitions are well run and the vast majority are handicap qualifiers giving everyone ample opportunity to maintain handicaps that accurately reflect current form. It’s worth noting that the courses are normally playable for most of the winter months and members can often to take part in handicap qualifying competitions when other clubs are forced to use temporary greens and fairway mats.
